Whenever I think of “Women’s Health and Wellness”, I end up thinking not only of myself but my mom, my dadi (grandma), and all the ladies in and outside my house. I am sure you do too… Every day I see them juggling between the numerous responsibilities with a smile on their face.
They are often regarded as the chief medical officers of the home and gatekeepers of their family’s health. But when it comes to their health, women often end up neglecting their health.

- Women are more prone to ovarian cancer, breast cancer, heart disease, depression, and anxiety, which affects the overall quality of life and their well-being.
- According to the World Health Organization, over 800 women die every day in pregnancy and childbirth.
- Almost 97% of women experienced a moderate to high level of stress, as per the survey conducted in 2018 GCI Health’s HealthiHer movement.

- 30 minutes of moderate Exercise is essential for weight control, stress reduction, and the prevention of chronic diseases
- A proper sleep schedule of 7–8 hours is the most important part of healing and repairing your body

Power to Drive Change:
Encouraging women to take ownership of their health and hygiene is paramount in the era of endless disease preying on them. Health and wellness initiatives led by women often emphasize preventive care, education, and empowerment.
This can take various forms, such as
- Advocating for policies that prioritize women’s health,
- Volunteering at local health clinics, or
- Donating to organizations that provide healthcare services to underserved populations.
Various startups have also come up with innovative ideas and solutions to cater to the needs of women’s health and wellness. With this blog, I would like to share some of the initiatives and schemes for the betterment of the health and wellness of women.
- Proactive by Achitha Jacob, Hera by Vaishnavi Raju, and That Sassy Thing by Sachee Malhottra are a few such women-focuses healthcare start-ups which focus on menstrual health, general pregnancy, PCOS, and sexual health. (Startups focusing on women’s health and wellness in India)
- Not only start-ups, but women NGOs led by women in India have been playing a stellar role and making a profound impact. NGOs like Guria by Manju Singh, and Kat-Katha by Gitanjali Babbar are ensuring access to healthcare and standing up for the rights of the underprivileged and the voiceless.
- And in this, our government of India is not behind, schemes like One-Stop Venters, Swadhar Greh Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) etc. facilitate access to all underprivileged women and children.
By leveraging such networks and expertise, women can empower individuals to take control of their health and make informed decisions about their well-being.
